Philosophy of Mathematics Department
Our curriculum is traditional, but our delivery reflects an awareness and appreciation of different learning styles.  We strive to ensure sound mathematical understanding in five main areas: Graphical (graphs, displays of data, geometry); Physical (manipulatives, measurements, data-gathering); Verbal (description, explanation); Analytical (algebra, symbols, functions); and Numerical (approximations, sequences).  We encourage critical thinking through class projects.
We strive to prepare students to:
 

• use a broad range of mathematical skills and knowledge

• be independent, analytical, and creative problem solvers

• use a variety of techniques and strategies to solve theoretical and real-life problems

• use technology skillfully and appropriately

• communicate mathematical ideas effectively and precisely.
